Don Quarrie

Donald Quarrie was one of the top sprinters during the 1970's, equaling the 200M world record in 1971 and the 100M world record in 1976. He won four Olympic medals. Gold in the 200M and silver in 100M at the 1976 Montreal games, bronze in the 200M at the 1980 Moscow games and silver in the 4X100M at the 1984 Los Angeles games. The statue gracing the entrance to the national stadium in Jamaica was erected in his honor and there is also a school, the Donald Quarrie High School, that bears his name. At the 1971 Pan American games Quarrie won three gold medals, competing in the 100M, 200m and the 4X100M. He has six Commonwealth Games gold medals, three in 1970, two in 1974 and one in 1978.
